Meet Meshack Masea

Meet Meshack Masea, a 19-year-old 12th grade student at St. Aloysius Gonzaga. His story and journey with the school differs from other students. He was a student in one of the neighboring schools which would interact with St. Aloysius during interschool sports activities. They would also occasionally visit St. Al’s and Meshack instantly fell in love with the school. He was particularly attracted to the school structure and students’ level of discipline. In 2018 Meshack’s school was closed down indefinitely due to management problems, leaving him and more than 200 students without a school. Stranded and confronted with a gloomy future, he remembered the beautiful school that he had always admired – St. Aloysius! After losing four weeks of school, he took the bold step of approaching a respected community leader to help secure a chance at St. Aloysius in Form Two. For him, the school presented his last hope to secure his future. He was admitted and has never regretted the decision. He openly expresses his love for the school and he still believes it was the best step he ever took.

Meshack is very grateful for the resources St. Aloysius offers, such as the libraries, laboratories, dedicated staff, and the conducive learning environment. The values that the school propagates such as teamwork between students and teachers, spiritual nourishment through counselling, and school Masses have helped him to be a better person. As he prepares to graduate, having just concluded his final exams, he hopes to become a pharmacist in order to help the sick and underprivileged in his community. He believes St. Al’s has been the catalyst of his desire to succeed.  He receives a lot of moral support and inspiration from his brother who is a casual laborer, and who never gives up despite losing his job during the pandemic. One day he hopes to help break the vicious cycle of poverty and lift his parents, who are peasant farmers, out of their current situation.  He has been one of the top students in his class and there is no doubt that he will do well in his final exams and secure a spot in university. Let’s pray for Meshack that all of his dreams may come true!
